Why small-town students face extra hurdles
| Challenge | How an FD card helps |
|---|---|
| No income or salary slip | The FD replaces income proof |
| No CIBIL score | No score needed to apply |
| No big bank branch nearby | The process is online |
| Unfamiliar with credit cards | Small limit, simple to manage |
| Family worried about debt | Limit linked to your own small FD |
What you need
- Age 18 or older
- Your own PAN (or e-PAN, which can be made online)
- Aadhaar linked to your mobile, so the OTP reaches you
- A bank account in your name (any bank)
- ₹2,000 or more for the FD
Your Aadhaar address works, even if it's in a village. Read the documents checklist. Don't have a PAN yet? Apply online with Aadhaar e-KYC first.
How to apply from anywhere
- Check your documents: name and date of birth must match on PAN and Aadhaar.
- Make sure the Aadhaar OTP reaches your phone.
- Fill in your name and mobile in the form on this page.
- Complete registration and e-KYC online. Good mobile data is enough.
- Open the ₹2,000 FD online and activate your card.
Using the card well
- Put one or two small bills on it, like a recharge.
- Set autopay for the full bill.
- Keep spending under 30% of your limit.
- Never share your OTP, CVV or PIN with anyone, including people who call claiming to be from the bank.

Why start now
A CIBIL score usually appears about six months after you start using a card. By the time you finish college or clear your exam, you could have years of clean history, which helps with an education loan, a two-wheeler loan or a better card. Many students from small towns move to cities for work; a score you build now goes with you. Read our CIBIL plan for students.
Coaching and college cities students move to
Many small-town students study in Kota, Patna, Prayagraj, Varanasi, Lucknow, Bhopal or Jaipur. You can apply from any of them, or from home.
Example
Pooja, 19, from a village near Gaya, is preparing for exams in Patna. She thought a credit card needed a city salary. With just her PAN, Aadhaar and a ₹2,000 FD, she applied online from her phone in one evening. She uses the card only for her ₹249 recharge, with autopay, and seven months later she had her first CIBIL score.
