Who this page is for
- Polytechnic diploma students in engineering and technical branches
- ITI trainees in trades like electrician, fitter, mechanic or welder
- Apprentices earning a stipend
- Recent pass-outs waiting for a job
You must be 18 or older to hold a credit card in your own name.
Why regular cards turn you down
| What banks check | What most diploma and ITI students have |
|---|---|
| Salary slips or ITR | No income, or a small stipend |
| CIBIL score | No history |
| Job letter | Not yet |
An FD card skips all three. Read credit card without income proof.
How the FD card works
- Open an FD of ₹2,000 or more in your own name.
- Get a credit card with a limit linked to the FD.
- Your FD earns interest while it backs the card.
- Use the card for small bills and pay in full every month.
- Each on-time payment builds your CIBIL score.
See how the FD credit card for students works and the documents checklist.
What you need
- Age 18+
- Your own PAN (an e-PAN made online is fine)
- Aadhaar linked to your mobile
- A bank account in your name
- ₹2,000 or more for the FD
Why it helps when you start working
Diploma and ITI holders often need credit early: a two-wheeler to reach the workplace, tools or equipment, or a phone for work. A CIBIL score built during your course can make those loans easier and cheaper to get. A first score usually appears about six months after you start using a card. Read our CIBIL plan for students.
Using the card the right way
- Keep it for one or two small bills, like a recharge.
- Set autopay for the total amount due.
- Keep spending under 30% of your limit. Read how much limit a ₹2,000 FD gives.
- Never take cash from an ATM with a credit card.
- Never share your OTP, CVV or PIN.
Example
Ramesh, 19, is in the second year of an ITI electrician course near Pune and does weekend work at a service centre. He had no salary slip and had never borrowed. He opened a ₹2,000 FD card online and used it only for his ₹249 recharge, with autopay. Eight months later he had a CIBIL score of 742, and when he finished his course and needed a two-wheeler for his new job, his score helped.

Frequently asked questions
Can an ITI student get a credit card?
Yes, if you're 18 or older with your own PAN and Aadhaar. A card against a ₹2,000 FD needs no income.
I'm 17 and in a diploma course. Can I apply?
Not yet. You need to be 18. Prepare your PAN and Aadhaar so you can apply on your birthday.
I'm doing an apprenticeship with a stipend. Do I need to show it?
No. The FD secures the card, so stipend details aren't needed.
Will this help me get a loan for tools or a bike later?
A good CIBIL score built now can make loans easier to get once you start working.
Do I need my institute ID?
No. You need identity and address proof, not proof that you're a student.
